Insane man

Numbers 14:40 - And they rose early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we are here, and will go up to the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.

There are some moments in the Bible where man has done or said things which are just insane which make you stand and think how can man be so crazy.

The Old Testament has many such situations but there are some even in the Gospels like the time when Lazarus had died and Jesus revealed this to His disciples just before leaving to Lazarus' house, we have Thomas who surprisingly tells his fellow disciples 'let us go, that we may die with him'. This too when they saw many dead people been bought back to life by Jesus (someday I hope to write on this).

We also have another situation just before Jesus' crucifixion Jesus spoke of the times which were to come and we have the disciples who disclose they were carrying swords with them. Imagine near the end of almost 3 years of teaching them about the Kingdom of God yet these disciples had armed themselves while they were yet with Jesus.

We see in scriptures and in life when a situation becomes hopeless or death stares at the face of man unless man is not filled with the Spirit of God and Truth of God, we see man does insane things. In both the incidents in the Gospels which I pointed out we see the disciples had yet not received the Holy Spirit and also the teachings of Jesus were not fully understood by them. It was only after they had received the Spirit of the Lord that understanding really started coming to them and they really became disciples of Jesus Christ.

In today's message after the Lord disclosed the reality to the Israelites through Moses, they mourned for their past doings and hopelessness started to fall on them. They then did foolishness even after Moses warned them and they had to pay for their foolishness.

In life unless we are led by the Spirit of God and hold true understanding of the Word of God we will behave like people of this world who do insane things when hopelessness stares in their face.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, You gave us your Word which is Truth but yet it is not understood by man because without your Spirit it is impossible for man to understand the Truth. Lord Jesus You gave us your Spirit of Truth so that we may know of the Kingdom of God and of life and be founded strongly in the Truth and not waver even when grave situations try to bring hopelessness tries in us. Lord let your people not be fooled that by just believing in You they will survive this world and overcome it. Let them know You gave us a Helper and Revealer of the Truth since You know without Him we cannot overcome this world and come to You. Lord, help us hold on to your Truth by being led by your Spirit...

This prayer we make in Jesus' Name, Amen.

John 16:7-15
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The Word of God was given free to us, therefore we should also share it freely with others.
